Antonio Hernández, the man whose home is featured in the first two
photographs is from Santa María de Oxtotipan, Puebla, México.
He is probably in his 80's. He does not know the year of his birth.
He never married and has no one to care for him. He is no longer
able to work and lives alone in this little stone house. His nick
name, Charcos, means puddles. The townspeople call him Charcos because
he "jumps" from neighbor's house to neighbor's house in
search of food and care, much like one would jump over puddles to
avoid getting one's shoes wet on a rainy day.
8x10 prints of these photos are for sale for $ 40.00. Twenty dollars
of the sale price of each photo will be donated directly to Charcos
or to an equally needy person from the same town. All of the photographs were taken in central Mexico. Also, twenty percent of all other artwork proceeds will be donated directly to Charcos.
